Veterans Memorial Story
This is how it all started…
The heroic bronze statue is the centerpiece of a beautiful and patriotic Veterans Monument which is located at Kelly’s Whitewater Park in Cascade, Idaho. The Park is on the same property where a large lumber mill used to be. When the mill closed, the land was left covered with discarded debris. SPC Borbonus’ father, Hans, reclaimed the land and converted the ugly brown field to what he hoped someday would be park land. Along came Mark and Kristina Pickard who, in turn for a generous donation of land by Hans, built Kelly’s Whitewater River Park in memory of Kristina’s late sister Kelly Brennan. The Pickards wanted to repay the favor to Hans and build this Veterans Memorial in honor of Hans’ son and all who serve in the US military. The park, with amphitheater and visitors center, has recently been recognized as one of the top kayaking waterparks in the country.
Our thanks to Mark and Kristina Pickard for their vision and commitment.
